CARLOS Edwards should make his first league appearance in almost a year after a hamstring tear ruled Shaun Cummings out of this weekend’s clash with bottom side Crewe.
The 36-year-old came through the JPT win over Peterborough without a problem after 11 months out.
Manager Neil Harris will probably keep changes to a minimum after two clean sheets in the last three games, but Shane Ferguson could come into contention at left-back after making his comeback from a hamstring injury in Northern Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifiers last week.
Joe Martin may not be ready for Saturday but might be available for the meeting with Port Vale four days later.
Harris also has a difficult decision to make in midfield after Shaun Williams and Ed Upson, who were both dropped for the 2-0 defeat to Chesterfield, impressed in the victory over Posh.
Williams could take over from Jack Powell, while Upson might push Ben Thompson for a place in the starting line-up.
Aiden O’Brien’s good recent form means he is a candidate to start up front, possibly on the left which could see Steve Morison start as the central striker.
Crewe, meanwhile, have yet to win in any competition this season in seven games making it their worst start since 1990-91.
But they were unlucky to lose to Swindon last Saturday having taken the lead in the 61st minute. They dominated possession and should have earned a better return for their 15 attempts on goal.
Instead, Swindon hit back to win 3-1 and leave the hosts rooted to the bottom of the table.
And their chances of turning around their form will be hit this weekend by the absence of midfielder James Jones, named Crewe’s breakthrough player of the year last season.
Billy Bingham is also out through injury, but Crewe welcome back striker Marcus Haber after his involvement in Canada’s 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
Wales U21 international Harry Wilson also boosts manager Steve Davis’ attacking options.
