MILLWALL have released 18 players following their relegation to League One – including long-serving captain Alan Dunne.
Of the club’s 20 out-of-contract players, only Jimmy Abdou and John Marquis have been offered new deals.
From the first-team squad, Dunne, Nicky Bailey, Matthew Briggs, Richard Chaplow, Carlos Edwards, Ricardo Fuller, Magaye Gueye, Justin Hoyte, Stefan Maierhofer, Angel Martinez, Danny Shittu and Martyn Woolford have been let go.
Edwards, who has been sidelined since last September with a horrific knee injury, has been invited to complete his rehabilitation with the Lions.
Youngsters Dylan Casey, Sofiane El-Bekri, Denzel Gerrar, Jake Goodman, Josh Siafa and Callum Webb will also be moving on to pastures new.
Dunne’s association with the club has come to an end after 22 years and 338 appearances.
Chairman John Berylson told the club’s official site: “It is always sad when a member of your family who has lived with you for a long time, leaves home.
“Like Neil Harris and Paul Robinson before him, Alan leaves us with our thanks and very best wishes for the future.
“He has written his own chapter in Millwall’s history and he will always be very welcome whenever he returns to The Den.
“While Alan will continue his playing career elsewhere, it would not surprise me to see him back here in some capacity further down the line.”
If Abdou and Marquis agree new contracts, Millwall will be left with the following squad for the 2015-16 campaign:
Jimmy Abdou, Mark Beevers, Paris Cowan-Hall, Shaun Cummings, David Forde, Lee Gregory, Tom King, John Marquis, Lee Martin, Sid Nelson, Aiden O’Brien, Fred Onyedinma, Alfie Pavey, Jack Powell, Mahlon Romeo, Ben Thompson, Ed Upson, Byron Webster, Shaun Williams, Keaton Wood, Jamie Philpot.
