TOM Elliott wants to start up front with Steve Morison for the first time on Saturday – and “frighten” Bolton Wanderers at The Den.
Lions boss Neil Harris could pair Elliott and Morison in attack if scans show Lee Gregory has suffered a hamstring problem.
Gregory came on for the injured Jake Cooper in the first half of the 2-0 EFL Cup win over Stevenage on Tuesday night, but went off 36 minutes later.
Elliott scored the equaliser against Bolton in a 1-1 draw at the Macron Stadium.
And he believes that he and last season’s top scorer Morison can worry Phil Parkinson’s defence.
“I haven’t played up front with Moro yet but I’d love to play up front with him because he’s a clever player,” Elliott said. “In training he talks to me and gives me guidance. Obviously if the gaffer puts me on the team sheet I’ll be buzzing, but if he puts me on the bench I’ll be shouting in his ear to put me on!
“I played against Bolton last year. They’ve got some big defenders but if me and Moro did play up front we’d frighten a few defenders. If it’s coming off the bench or starting I’ll be raring to go.”
Elliott’s double against Stevenage opened his account for the season after he scored 13 goals in all competitions last season for AFC Wimbledon.
The 26-year-old centre-forward is targeting double figures in his first season with his new club, and he revealed Harris takes a very hands-on approach in the coaching sessions with the attackers.
“He’s been great for me, I’ve never done so many shooting drills in my life and he’s always joining in,” Elliott revealed. “That’s a great thing for me, he wants his strikers to put the ball in the back of the net.
“Over my career that’s the one thing I’ve lacked. I’ve been a threat to defences but once you go into the higher leagues you have to start to add goals to your game.
“You have to get into double figures. I did it last year and am hoping to do it again this year. I want to see where I can go.
“The gaffer works with us, we do so many striking sessions a week, so he makes it easier for us to be comfortable in front of goal because we’re used to it in training.
“We do individual stuff, it’s a good set-up we’ve got.
“I want to get into double figures and take it from there. I want to get as much game time as I can. I feel like I can play football at this level.
“I want to have a successful season with Millwall, get into double figures. That would be a good goal for me.”
