NEIL Harris revealed he spoke to Tom Elliott after the striker’s underwhelming performance at Rochdale in the FA Cup – and said the striker has been “outstanding in training” since then.
Elliott started just his seventh league game for the Lions this season when he partnered Lee Gregory up front at Hull on Tuesday night, and made an immediate impact when he was involved in George Saville’s goal after 50 seconds.
The striker put in an impressive display, forcing Allan McGregor into a first-half fingertip save, before he was replaced with Steve Morison in the second half of the 2-1 win.
Elliott hadn’t featured for the Lions since that 1-0 FA Cup defeat last month.
“He probably put himself under pressure because he hadn’t played since Rochdale, when he didn’t have his finest game in a Millwall shirt,” Harris said. “We’ve had a couple of good chats since then and he has been outstanding in training.
“I was very conscious of the fact that I hadn’t used him in the last four games. I felt it was right time to put him back in tonight.
“Steve is up there as one of our best players this season. But going again [Tuesday night] on back of Saturday would have been difficult for him. And I thought Tom was ready.”
