COLCHESTER United manager Tony Humes has praised Millwall supporters – but says his side are ready for the challenge of playing at The Den this weekend.
Humes admitted that Lions fans were “fantastic” when he watched Neil Harris’ side recently, when he was also was impressed with the quality of Saturday’s opposition.
“Millwall have got a great crowd that get behind their team,” he told the Colchester Gazette.
“I was there the other day and they were fantastic.
“But we’ve been quite positive both home and away, regardless of where we’re playing.
“The players see it as a challenge and want to take it on.
“We have to go there and play our game and it’s about getting it right on the day.
“Like any match, it’s going to be tough but it’s another winnable one and we’ve got to go into it with that mindset.
“We know it’s going to be competitive and that we’re up against some very experienced, quality ex-Championship players.
“But if we play to our utmost, we’ll give them a game.”
The U’s have the worst defence in League One, but have demonstrated their ability this season by winning at Swindon and Sheffield United.
Harris has warned that Colchester have a fluid attack capable of causing his players problems as Millwall look to climb into the play-off spots for the first time this season.
Humes feels Millwall will be challenging for promotion back to the Championship and gave credit to Harris for his rebuilding work since he took over.
“Given the resources they’ve got, they should be one of the favourites to go up, “Humes said.
“Neil is doing a great job to get them back where they were and they’re looking very powerful now.”
