MILLWALL will assess the progress of their loan players in January.
There are currently four Lions players with first-team experience with clubs in League One and League Two.
After positive starts, Fred Onyedinma (Wycombe), Ben Thompson (Portsmouth) and Tom King (AFC Wimbledon) have found themselves out of their sides recently.
Sid Nelson has been a hit with Swindon, though he missed their 1-1 draw at home to Northampton Town last Saturday with a hip injury. Combative centre-back Nelson had helped the Robins to four clean sheets in their previous six games.
Millwall boss Neil Harris knows clubs have different requirements for their sides, but hinted that if temporary arrangements are not helping the development of his players he will seek alternative options.
“Players going out on loan is for different reasons,” he said. “They go because they want to go and get first-team football somewhere else, which I’m very supportive of.
“When they go you hope they’ll be given the opportunity to play, and if they are then it’s down to them to keep their place.
“You can’t look at a four- or five-month loan over the course of one month, you have to look over the course of the full period. We monitor the players, speak to them and speak to the clubs and if they’ve been in the team and are then out then we’re interested why, what’s happened?
“But then it’s about the longevity of the loan. If they’re getting the game time that we expect and that’s needed then brilliant, it’s a great loan with a view to helping that club, helping the player and helping us to develop the player.
“If they’re not then there’s no point in them being there, really. As it stands at the moment all the players have been involved. We just monitor it all the way through to January.
“If a player goes somewhere and the club is doing really well then it’s hard for them to get in.
“We’re very respectful to what other teams need from our players as well, but ultimately it’ll always be about our players going out on loan to benefit the player.”
