BOLTON Wanderers will be without Josh Vela for the Championship meeting with Millwall on Saturday.
Vela picked up an ankle injury in the 3-2 defeat at home to Leeds United on Sunday and is expected to be out for a significant period.
Midfielder Vela, 23, played in all but one of Bolton’s games last season and scored 10 goals.
Centre-back David Wheater – who alongside ex-Lion Mark Beevers was part of a defence that conceded the fewest number of goals of any team in League One last season – also went off at the weekend and was seeing a back specialist on Wednesday morning.
Sammy Ameobi, scorer of the opener in Bolton’s 2-0 win at The Den last season, is also out.
Bolton boss Phil Parkinson will hope there are no further injury problems after their EFL Cup first-round meeting with Crewe at Gresty Road on Wednesday night.
Millwall have injury problems of their own, after Jake Cooper (ankle) and Lee Gregory (hamstring) went off in the 2-0 EFL Cup win over Stevenage on Tuesday.
The pair will be assessed on Wednesday but are major doubts for Saturday’s fixture.
