MAHLON ROMEO is likely to make his full Championship debut this weekend in the absence of the suspended Conor McLaughlin.
Romeo, 22, has made just two late substitute appearances in the league this season but should get his chance after McLaughlin picked up his fifth booking of the campaign against Fulham last weekend.
That will give him the opportunity to renew his partnership on Millwall’s right flank with Jed Wallace. The pair first started together when Romeo made a scoring debut against Walsall in February 2016.
Wallace is back after his three-match ban, and feels the enforced break could benefit him.
Wallace admitted he wasn’t at his best just before his suspension, a consequence he feels of not playing regularly in the two years before his permanent move to the Lions and therefore not building up physical “resilience”.
“Sheffield Wednesday was probably the worst game I’ve had for Millwall, I’ll probably never have a worse game,” Wallace said. “I’m an all-action player but I’ve done it before, playing 50 games in a row. The last few years I’ve not played as much as I would have liked so it’s just about building that resilience in your body again.
“You see that with people like Hutch [Shaun Hutchinson], who has played regularly for six months where before he was stop-start and picking up injuries. It’s about finding that consistency.
“Whether I play for Millwall or for Dover my style will always be run, run, run, that’s my strength. I’ve just got to be as fit as I can.”
Millwall play five of the current top seven in December, starting with Sheffield United this Saturday, but Wallace thinks looking too far ahead and trying to make predictions is a waste of time.
“Two years ago Barnsley were getting relegated from League One and then won every game and beat us at Wembley,” he said. “So you can’t look too far ahead, you have to take each game as it comes, boring as that is and I don’t like to use those boring clichés.
“Every game is difficult and you end up shooting yourself in the foot if you look at the fixtures going, ‘that’s a home game we should win, that’s an away game we should get a point from’.
“Sheff U is going to be a tough game but one we’re really looking forward to.”
