NEIL Harris admitted Ryan Tunnicliffe has been “desperate” to break into the Millwall first team.
Tunnicliffe, 24, started for the first time in the league this season on Saturday against Barnsley when he replaced the injured Shaun Williams in the side.
The former Manchester United and Fulham midfielder now has a chance to secure a long-term first-team place with Williams expected to be out for three months with a knee injury.
Tunnicliffe had been limited to just 54 minutes of league action before last weekend.
Ben Thompson, who has yet to feature in the Championship this season, should see his chances of action increased with Williams sidelined.
“Both boys have had to be patient,” Harris said. “Tunni has come in with good pedigree and a good reputation. He’s had to settle for a couple of cup games and appearances off the bench.
“He’s been desperate to play.
“Thommo has been slightly behind Ryan, a couple of cup games but not as much involvement in the league.
“His potential is there and his form over the last two years has been good.
“Both boys will be seeing an opportunity and so they should be. It’s a chance for them to nail down a place and once in try and stay in the team and help the team continue the good form they have shown.”
