JED Wallace is looking forward to renewing his partnership with Mahlon Romeo – and praised the attitude of the defender ahead of this weekend’s meeting with Sheffield United.
Romeo is set to start his first league game of the season with Conor McLaughlin suspended, while Wallace should go straight back into the starting side after his ban.
Wallace believes Romeo deserves his chance for his effort in training and past performances for the team.
“I think the world of Mahlon, on and off the pitch, he’s a really good friend of mine. I’ve always enjoyed playing with Mahlon,” Wallace said.
“People who have come through the academy like Mahlon and Thommo [Ben Thompson] are a credit to themselves because the attitude they show in training every day is brilliant.
“Tony Craig as well, they played almost every game the last two years and got promoted, so they should feel hard-done-by that they’re not playing now.
“They’ve earned the right to get an opportunity and I’m sure that’s at the forefront of the manager’s mind, just how well those boys have done for him. It’s a small squad and we need everyone training hard and the squad staying together.
“Injuries and suspensions open doors for people. If you said to Twards [Kris Twardek] at the beginning of the season he’d be making his debut he probably wouldn’t have believed you, we had that many players.
“I said it to my friends there isn’t an easier club to get an opportunity to play Championship football at than Millwall because all you need to do is give 110 per cent and show a bit of quality and the manager will throw you in, which he has proven already.
“It shows the quality we’ve got in the squad right now, with people like Mahlon not playing.
“On Saturday if he is selected he won’t let anyone down.”
