Two men were stabbed within 24 hours in Peckham on Saturday – in broad daylight.
The incidents occurred just streets apart, and come amid rising knife crime across the capital and amid a spate of stabbings in Southwark.
The first stabbing took place on Peckham’s Rye Lane early in the morning, with the second reported that evening, on Lugard Road.
A Met spokesperson confirmed that officers were called with reports of a man suffering stab injuries on Rye Lane at 6.20 am on Saturday, July 14.
He told the News: “The man, who is believed to be aged in his late 40s, was taken to a south London hospital where his condition has now been deemed not life-threatening.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6:04am on 14 July to Rye Lane, Peckham to reports of a stabbing.
“We sent an incident response officer, a single responder in a car and an ambulance crew to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated a man at the scene and took him to hospital as a priority by road.”
The second incident was reported to police at around 5.20pm, when officers were told a man had been assaulted on Lugard Road, about fifteen minutes walk from Rye Lane.
Police confirmed: “The London Ambulance Service attended and the man, aged in his 20s, was taken to a south London hospital for treatment to a stab injury to the arm.
“He was discharged following treatment.
“At this early stage it is believed the victim was attacked by two males, one of whom stabbed him.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:”We were called at 5:14pm 14 July to Lugard Road, Peckham to reports of a stabbing.
“We sent an incident response officer, a single responder in a car and an ambulance crew to the scene.
“We treated a man at the scene and took him to hospital as a priority.”
Southwark police officers are continuing to investigate both incidents and no arrests have been made.
There is no suggestion they are linked.
