A Bermondsey man invited a food delivery driver to come in and watch England’s semi-final after he arrived in the middle of the game.
Radio presenter Rich Wolfenden, originally from Liverpool but now living in Lucey Way, planned to watch England’s crucial game against Denmark on Wednesday at the Gregorian pub on Jamaica Road.
But the pub was too full, with barely even any standing room, so he decided to watch the match at home with his housemate and his cousin.
They ordered in Chinese food – and their delivery driver arrived just after Denmark’s own goal, scored under pressure from Raheem Sterling, which levelled the scores at 1-1.
“He arrived when we were mid-celebration.” said Rich, who presents an indie music show on Radio X on Fridays and Saturdays. “We were on a bit of a high. We asked him if he wanted to come in and watch.
“He said yes, put his bag down and sat on the seat watching with us for about ten minutes.
“We only talked a little bit. He’s only just moved to this country so his English wasn’t great. He was a Man U fan.”
England beat Denmark 2-1 after extra time to progress to the final on Sunday.
