Student successes have been hailed at Camberwell’s Ark All Saints Academy at GCSE results day.
Among the pupils toasting their achievements following a haul of top grades was Melanie Kirchner, who only moved to the UK from France in September 2018.
Despite originally speaking little English, she manage to bag a string of top grades: five 9s, one 8, one 6 and two 5s.
As a passionate supporter of environmental causes, the teen said she wants to study Science and Green Energy in the future. “In everything I do, I’m motivated by eventually helping the environment and help save the planet”, she said.
“It was a real challenge, but I did it!”
Fellow classmate Curtis Johnson also secured a row of top grades, managing to get four 8s, four 7s, one 6 and one 5.
“I try to work as hard as possible. I just want to try my best, I want to make people proud of me. I’m really happy with my results. Well done to everyone!” the keen school choir member said.
Amelia Lam, another student success story at the school on GCSE results day, said she was “very proud” of herself after discovering she had GCSE grades of seven 9s, two 8s and one 7.
One day she hopes to become a biologist or a biomedical engineer – and her life ambition is to cure cancer.
“I’m very proud of my results and can’t wait for the future,” she said.
“Thank you to all the teachers who helped me along the way!”
