A 1950s diesel train surprised travellers when it cruised through Elephant and Castle station at the weekend.
The 60116 Mountfield motor coach was formed into Unit 101, which worked the Charing Cross to Hastings Route between 1957 and 1986, and was just the ticket for trainspotters who snapped the vintage vehicle.
The striking green train passed through as part of a rail tour organised by rail preservation company Hastings Diesels just after 12pm on Saturday, January 6.
The 60116 motor car has previously been used on preserved lines including the Kent & East Sussex Railway and the Swanage Railway in Dorset.
It was then fully rebuilt, overhauled and restored and hit the tracks once more in 2002 after getting its official certification.
The Mountfield was refurbished at the St Leonard’s Depot and has Southern Region green bodysides and a full yellow front.
