A Royal British Legion club in Kennington are having a disco following their annual service for Remembrance Day.
As groups across the borough are set to gather next week to pay their respects to soldiers who have lost their lives in conflict – one club in Kennington is going all out.
“We will start with the march we do every year,” Steven Forse, Treasurer of the Royal British Legion Southwark Community Club said, “the army and cadets from over the road all join. We expect a good turnout.”
They will march from Doddington Grove to the cenotaph in Kennington Park for a service and wreath laying. Afterwards, they will meet at the Royal British Legion (RBL) centre for a get-together.
He explained: “We’re having a disco with drinks and music all afternoon, so I encourage anyone to come along – it’s always fun. Or for anyone who doesn’t want alcohol, there’s tea and cakes.”
As an ex-serviceman, Steven said Remembrance Day is a cause close to his heart: “I served for nine years from 1968 to 1977 and have very fond memories of it.
“It’s an important cause to commemorate,” he added.
