A murder inquiry has been launched after the body of a 46-year-old woman was found inside a property on a Rotherhithe estate on Wednesday evening.
Police raced to Canute Gardens, off Hawkstone Road, opposite Southwark Park, on Wednesday, March 1, and found the woman’s body as well as an injured man aged 53. He was arrested on suspicion of murder before being treated by paramedics.
Officers were alerted over a ‘concern for safety’ call at 8.23pm and forced entry into the property.
Police say the man and woman were known to each other.
The man was taken for treatment but later discharged from hospital. He was then taken into custody and police say the woman’s next of kin have been informed.
A crime scene is in place and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing as homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate.
Forensic officers have been scouring the crime scene for clues while officers have been carrying out door to door inquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
