Southwark Council spent more than £800,000 on scaffolding alone for the major renovation work on the Canada Estate towers, which have suffered delays.
The council paid £505,700 including hoists, as well as additional scaffold hire charges of £265,860 and additional hoist hire charges of £60,860 – coming to an estimated £832,420 in total, a freedom of information request by the News has found.
The scaffolding work on Regina Point and Columbia Point started in October 2020 and was due to finish in December last year, but has been delayed. The majority of the scaffolding should be down by mid-March this year, the council said.
Builders Durkan were given the contract for the work, which includes external and internal repairs and upgrades to the blocks.
