Disastrous merger
Your excellent Editorial (“We need to take a hard line against the attempts to merge policing”, 30 March 2017) has drawn attention to the possible merging of Southwark and Lambeth’s police boroughs.
Those of us who work with Southwark Police on the ‘front-line’ of our community – in my case for 25 years – have been aware of this potentially disastrous plan for some time. The wider community needs to be made aware of what is happening, especially those who work with the police on behalf of their communities on Safer Neighbourhood Ward Panels.
I would like to ask our MPs, Harriet Harman and Neil Coyle, to start working with us to question and challenge this move. We will be stronger if we work together with one voice.

Asthma sufferers
I am writing to let you know that people in your area with asthma are being invited to take part in an innovative new digital health project pilot that aims to reduce their risk of suffering asthma attacks.
Asthma UK’s 12-Week Asthma Support Programme, funded by a Department of Health Innovation Challenge Fund grant, will provide people with asthma with remote and virtual support from a team of specialist asthma nurses and psychologists who specialise in behavioural change, to reduce their chance of having an asthma attack.
Upon signing up for the pilot, people with asthma will receive personalised digital support that is easily and conveniently available to them wherever they are, via their smartphones.
The initial pilot will involve 30 people with asthma who have had an asthma attack in the last year, are aged between 18-67, live in England and have a smartphone.
After the initial pilot, a further 320 people will be recruited to join a second phase of the pilot inform recruited from autumn 2017.
The impact of the pilot in improving asthma control and reducing the risk of asthma attacks among people with asthma will then be evaluated.
Anyone who is interested in taking part in the 12-Week Asthma Support Programme pilot can find out more and sign up at www.asthma.org.uk/asthma-support-programme

Help us with our fight
Southwark News have been supporting and reporting on the case of the Aylesbury Estate fighting to save the Community for over the last two years and involved in getting us media attention on the Aylesbury via your readers.
As you are aware we have managed to win a landmark case to stop the CPO of the First Development Site on the Aylesbury. Without your continued support of media coverage we would have not been able to done this.
Southwark Council continues its legal challenge against the decision of the Secretary of State and it has been granted permission for a Judicial Review on a point of law on 9th May 2017 at the Royal Court of Justice in the Strand,
Although the case will be against the Secretary of State and Southwark Council we as leaseholders have joined the case as Interested Parties. The Interested Parties need the legal support of a Barrister and have managed to raise over £7000 via our crowdfunding appeal. However this is not quite enough, so I’m appealing for support for the Aylesbury leaseholders and all the residents on the estate. Our GoFundMe website address is gofundme.com/aylesbury-the-right-to-a-community-2uefgf2s.

Bake for heroes
Get out the aprons, wooden spoons and mixing bowls to help this year’s annual Bake for Heroes campaign.
So far, supporters of all ages and all around the UK have cooked up more than £850,000 for Help for Heroes since Bake for Heroes began in 2009. This year we’re hoping to top the £1million mark.
The ingredients for success are simple – supporters simply sign up for a free fundraising pack through H4H to bake cupcakes, sponges, biscuits, flapjacks or whatever tasty treat they fancy, and sell them off to colleagues, family and friends.
All money raised goes to H4H supporting wounded, injured and sick personnel, veterans and their loved ones.
The Bake for Heroes campaign runs between April 15 and April 30, but supporters can take part whenever it suits them.
Every time I sit down and talk to our brave men and women, they tell me how much it means to know the public is behind them and their families throughout their recovery.
I’m determined to help make sure that this vital support is there whenever it is needed. So please join us, it’s very simple to sign up and bake a difference! You could just get some friends together for a cup of tea, have a laugh and have a chat. You really will be helping to rebuild lives and continue the amazing work that Help for Heroes does.
Bake sales can be as big or small as you want – it could be a tea and cake event at work or school, a coffee and cake morning at the local community centre, or simply an invitation to friends to come round for a slice of cake and a catch-up in return for a donation.
Funds will support the work of Help for Heroes and their four Recovery Centres, which have been purpose-built and support around 4,000 people every year.
To register to take part visit www.bakeforheroes.org.uk or call 01980 846459.
