MILLWALL’s Mark Beevers is believed to be considering other options with his contract set to expire at the end of June, NewsAtDen understands.
Lions boss Neil Harris wants to keep the 26-year-old defender, but may have a battle on his hands to secure his signature.
Millwall haven’t been in contact with Beevers’ representatives since the play-off final defeat to Barnsley, NewsAtDen has been told.
Several Championship clubs are thought to be interested in the centre-back, who was brought to Millwall by Kenny Jackett from Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent deal in January 2013.
Beevers, who was born in Barnsley, played 53 times for the Lions last season and scored five goals, including one in that 3-1 defeat to his hometown club.
Harris has already begun working on shaping his squad for next season. The club announced this week defenders Byron Webster and Joe Martin activated a further year each in their contracts last season.
Seven players, including Carlos Edwards and Ed Upson, will be released when their deals expire at the end of June, with Upson set to join MK Dons on July 1.
But Millwall don’t want to lose Beevers, who after being dropped earlier in the season amid rumours he was unsettled, emerged as a vital cog in Harris’ defence. A deal could still be struck between both parties.
Meanwhile, reports are linking Sheffield United with a move for Chris Taylor, who played 13 times for Millwall on loan from Blackburn last season.
The Championship club won’t be renewing his contract this summer. Harris said this week Millwall are keen on a permanent deal for the midfielder.
