GARY Rowett has explained how Ryan Woods typifies the type of signing he wants to make for Millwall in this transfer window.
Woods, 26, re-joined the Lions on a season-long loan from Stoke after a successful 18-game first spell. Woods had been out of favour with the Potters and said that his loan at Millwall in 2019-20 had help restore his confidence.
Millwall have also signed Troy Parrott for 2020-21. Tottenham fans were calling for Parrott, 18, to be given more game-time last season, especially when Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were unavailable.
But Spurs boss Jose Mourinho said the forward “wasn’t ready” for the first team, leaving Parrott to seek regular football out on loan.
Woods is also key to the less direct style Rowett is trying to implement at Millwall.
“He’s a top player,” Rowett said. “As a holding midfield player he can break the play up and gain possession to give you that little bit of control that we were searching for.
“There aren’t many better in the division.
“He’s a good age, he’s got good experience. Typical of a lot of signings we’re interested in, they’ve lost a little bit of form or haven’t been playing with their club.
“The one thing we want to do is give them the platform to get their careers back on track and play the way we think they can.”
