BEN Marshall wants Millwall fans to get behind him as he said: “I’ll give my all for them.”
Marshall is back at the Lions for a second time on loan after a successful spell last season.
The former Blackburn and Wolves midfielder should go straight into the squad for the clash with Middlesbrough on Saturday.
“I was here last year, so I know the club and the lads already,” Marshall told Millwall’s official website after passing his medical and completing his move today.
“I went to Norwich in the summer but it’s not happened there, so I’ve had to look at playing games elsewhere.
“It’s a similar situation to last year. All I want to do is my best for the lads, the manager and the fans, and if I can replicate what I did last year, which I was proud of and I enjoyed, then I’ll be made up.
“I still speak to a lot of the boys and they keep me updated with how everyone is getting on. They’re a great bunch of lads and it’s nice to keep in contact. I’m looking forward to getting into training on Thursday and giving the lads some stick!
“[The fans] looked after me and helped me with stuff. I just hope they can get behind me. I’ll give my all for them. I’m really excited to be back and I’ve got love for this football club, it’s not a secret. I just want what’s best for the football club and if I can do that, it’s smiles all round.
“I played against Portsmouth in the [FA] Cup, but I’ve not played for months before, so I was a bit rusty. I just need to hit the ground running, and I’m sure if I get the opportunity to play, to start, in the next few upcoming games, then I’ll do that.
“From what I’ve been watching in games, and in highlights, there still seems to be a similar way [to last season], so hopefully I can kick on.”
Lions boss Neil Harris added: “Ben made it very clear that once he was told he could get out and play that he wanted to come here, and we’re obviously very pleased to have him back.
“I said to Ben that there will be some expectation on his shoulders because of how well he performed for us last year, but just to come and enjoy himself and play. If he can try and replicate the form he showed, and we can win games, then we’re certainly in a good place.
“He is a player who has enough experience to welcome a bit of pressure on his shoulders. He’s got a great understanding with the group on and off the pitch, and had been a huge part of the dressing room dynamic, a good leader. He was certainly a character I enjoyed working with before.
“He’ll certainly go straight into the squad. A player of Ben’s quality needs to go straight into the group. He played 75 minutes at the beginning of the month for Norwich in the FA Cup, but hadn’t played a great deal before that. While he had been in plenty of match-day squads, he’d not had a lot of time on the pitch.
“We’ll evaluate it over the next few days and the coming weeks. He’s cup-tied and so cannot play against Everton next week, so we’ve got a period now to bed him back in.”
