MILLWALL are set to re-sign Ben Marshall on loan from Norwich City for the rest of the season.
Marshall, 27, will return to the Lions after a hugely successful loan spell in the second half of last season when his three goals, five assists and suitability to the style of play helped propel Neil Harris’ side towards the play-offs before they eventually finished eighth in the Championship.
Millwall won 10 of the 16 games Marshall played, drawing four.
The club tried to sign him permanently last summer, submitting what would have been a club-record bid to Wolves, but Marshall opted to join the Canaries.
He was affected by injury and then illness as he tried to establish himself in boss Daniel Farke’s side, and played just four times in the Championship this campaign. His last appearance came in Norwich’s 1-0 FA Cup third-round defeat to Ben Thompson’s Portsmouth at Carrow Road on January 5.
Millwall signed Jiri Skalak after being unsuccessful in their pursuit of Marshall in the summer transfer window, but had kept an eye on the former Blackburn player’s situation this season.
Skalak, 26, has struggled for regular football with the Lions since his switch from Brighton, and with Marshall’s signing it now looks likely he will leave on loan in the January window.
Marshall comes into a competitive area in the Millwall squad, with Shane Ferguson in his best form in his time at the club and Aiden O’Brien also an option on the left of midfield.
Marshall can also play full-back, and started at right-back in Millwall’s last game of 2017-18 when they defeated Aston Villa 1-0 at The Den.
The main details of the deal have been agreed and Marshall – who was at The Den last Saturday as Millwall lost 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers – could go straight into the squad for the clash with Middlesbrough at The Riverside Stadium this weekend.
