MAHLON Romeo has urged Millwall to “stay together” and get over their current “blip” as their season enters a final decisive month.
Millwall lost for the second successive time in League One with a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Tuesday night, a result that put securing a play-off place out of their hands.
The Lions haven’t won since exiting the FA Cup, a four-game sequence that has seen them drop from sixth, when they were just six points off automatic promotion, to seventh, fifteen points behind second-placed Bolton.
It’s the wrong time to be hitting a slump, and Neil Harris’ side now have seven games to save their season.
Romeo felt Millwall were better against the Blades than they had been in the 1-0 defeat to Swindon last weekend, and wants unity from now until the end of the season.
He said: “In terms of performance it was a lot better than Saturday. We’ve been flying in 2017 and had been unbeaten in however many games until Saturday.
“I think we’re just having a little blip, all teams will have that. There’s not long left now so we need to get together, and get three points against Scunthorpe at home on Saturday.
“It’s really just about sticking together and rallying from now until the end of the season.
“Hopefully we’ve had our blip and we can change it on Saturday.
“There are positives we can take from [Tuesday’s] performance. We created chances, and the goals could have been avoided to an extent.
“It’s a mini-season now and it’s still all to play for. We’re not miles off. We’ve got to stay together through this period.”
Millwall had two late opportunities to get back into the game against the league leaders, but Lee Gregory missed a one-on-one and Shaun Williams’ close-range shot was blocked by Chris Basham.
“On another day we take those chances and get something from the game,” Romeo said. “Sheffield are a great team, they’re flying at the moment and are going to do really well by the end of the season.
“If they were to go up they’ll probably do well in the league above. The performance compared to Saturday was like night and day.
“That’s a positive we have to take from it.”
