AIDEN O’Brien has suffered a crack in his knee – a similar injury to the one that kept Shaun Hutchinson out for two months earlier this season.
O’Brien, 25, was stretchered off in the 59th minute of the 1-1 draw at Bristol City on Sunday. The Republic of Ireland international had a scan on Monday which revealed the damage.
Millwall are unsure how long O’Brien will be out of action, but should know more when the player sees a specialist later this week.
“Aiden has got a crack in his knee. The scan has come back and there’s damage in there. Length of injury at the moment? We don’t know,” Millwall manager Neil Harris said.
“It’s a bizarre one because Hutch had a crack in his knee earlier in the season and was back quite quickly. Until Aiden sees the specialist we don’t know.
“The good news is it’s not ligament damage. It’s not a six-month job. We need to know whether it’s just pain and he can get on with it, or whether he needs a period of time to rest to let the crack repair.
“We’re not going to know until later in the week what the prognosis is, time-wise.”
Shaun Williams was having a scan on his ankle on Tuesday afternoon, but Harris said the midfielder is out for the “foreseeable future”.
