JIMMY Abdou’s AFC Wimbledon piled on the misery for Southend United as they defeated Phil Brown’s side 2-0 on New Year’s Day.
Abdou’s former Millwall team-mate Liam Trotter opened the scoring before Tom Soares added the second.
The win moves the Dons to within one point of safety in League One. Southend are 17th after five defeats in six.
James Brown was on the bench for Carlisle’s 3-1 loss at Mansfield in League Two.
In the National League, Jamie Philpot came on in the 71st minute but couldn’t help Woking avoid a 2-1 defeat at home to Aldershot.
Also in the fifth tier, Noah Chesmain was a substitute for Boreham Wood in their 1-1 draw at Sutton United.
