SHEFFIELD United have been installed as 6/1 favourites for the 2016-17 League One title.
About to embark on their sixth consecutive season in the third tier following relegation in 2011, the Blades will look to ex-Northampton boss Chris Wilder in their attempts to gain promotion.
Wilder joined United in May after Nigel Adkins was sacked for leading the club to their lowest finish since 1963 – 11th place in League One.
Prior to that, the Blades had enjoyed three play-off campaigns in four seasons, with just a seventh-placed finish in 2013-14 acting as the only blot on the copybook.
The familiar name of Jamal Campbell-Ryce spearheaded 12 players leaving Bramall Lane last week at the expiration of their contracts.
On the flip side, the club have made some astute signings, most notably Mark Duffy from Burton Albion and Chris Hussey from Bury.
The club have also completed the capture of James Wilson from Oldham Athletic on a two-year deal.
The biggest challenge of the transfer window for Wilder, however, could be keeping holding of star man Che Adams.
An unnamed club had a £1m bid turned down by the Blades earlier this week, but that is sure to be just the beginning of the race to claim Adams’ signature by transfer deadline day.
Last season’s encounters between the Lions and Sheffield United saw Neil Harris’ men do the double, winning 2-1 at Bramall Lane after an Aiden O’Brien brace and 1-0 at The Den through Chris Taylor’s early goal.
In 2016-17, both matches could be promotion six-pointers.
