SUMMER signing Gregg Wylde feels he is adapting well to his new environment after a week away in Portugal and a run-out in the pre-season victory over Bromley on July 16.
The Lions ran out 2-1 winners at Hayes Lane in a game in which Wylde was one of eleven players to come on for the final 30 minutes, something that was planned by manager Neil Harris.
And the 25-year-old believes the tough training camp in the Algarve has aided his integration into the squad.
“I’ve settled in really well,” Wylde said. “I’ll see my family in a couple of weeks and they’ll come down and help me move into my flat. The boys here have also been really good to me.
“I was nervous for the first couple of days, but after being with the boys in Portugal and getting to know them more, they are a good set of lads who are down to earth. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead with them.
“In Portugal, we had three sessions a day and sometimes we had a gym session in the evening.
“The temperature out there was killing us, but it got us fit and it’ll stand us in good stead for the season.”
The fixture at Bromley was Millwall fans’ first opportunity to get a glimpse of Wylde in a Lions shirt, but the former Plymouth player is still concentrating on the basics as he builds up his match sharpness.
“It was good to get the minutes, that’s what pre-season is about,” Wylde said. “We have a hard game on Tuesday against Dartford, so some of the boys will play more in that one.
“It was hot (on Saturday), and the humidity didn’t help. But if we can deal with the temperature in Portugal we can deal with it here.
“The manager says it’s still about getting the fitness up and looking to the first game of the season.”
