MURRAY Wallace will miss Saturday’s match against Hull City after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.
The Millwall defender fouled Tahith Chong on the edge of the penalty area in the second half of Millwall’s 0-0 draw against Birmingham City, ruling him out of their upcoming clash against the Tigers as a result.
Wallace has only just returned to the first-team squad after recovering from a groin injury, but he will now be one of four players that will miss Saturday’s game, with Shaun Hutchinson [hamstring], Ryan Leonard [hamstring] and Benik Afobe [knee] all ruled out as well.
“I knew this game was a gamble,” Rowett said about Wallace’s booking.
“I knew it would be a physical game so I wanted a bit more physicality with Murray. They’re very good at set pieces, Birmingham, they’re a strong side. They play forward like we do quite quickly, you’ve got to win those first contacts against the likes of [Troy] Deeney, against the likes of [Lukas] Jutkiewicz when he comes on.
“It was important that Muzza played. Physically he looked good, injury-wise he looked good. I probably wouldn’t have started him against Hull anyway just because I felt that turnaround would’ve been big and I wanted to start him in this one more than the next one.
“Scotty, I’m sure, will come back into the side and he’s been excellent in our home games.”
