A boy believed to be in his ‘mid-teens’ was stabbed on Albany Road this evening, in broad daylight and in front of horrified passersby.
The attack is one of a series of violent incidents to take place after the lockdown has been eased and over the bank holiday – and second knife attack in Walworth in the last week after a man was stabbed in Browning Street on Friday.
Today London’s Air Ambulance was landing in the same place, Nursery Row park, to take another victim to hospital.
The News has been told that the victim was attacked while in a group of around a dozen people near Wells Way, with one passerby who happened to be in the area saying they saw the boy ‘crumple over’ shortly after voices were raised and the atmosphere had become ‘threatening’.
Another caller told the News that tensions had been escalating around Aylesbury Estate and the wider area, with a heavy police presence in recent days and loud lockdown-flouting parties taking place in Burgess Park.
A Met spokesperson said: “Police were called at approximately 6.40pm on Tuesday, 26 May to reports of a male found suffering a stab wound in Albany Road, SE5.
“Officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance all attended the scene. The male – believed aged in his mid-teens – was taken to hospital for treatment, an update on his condition awaits.”
There have been no arrests.
A crime scene remains in place at the location and road closures are in place.
