The funeral details have been announced for a Lions legend, the last surviving member of the 1945 War Cup Final team who passed away last week.
Bermondsey-born George Fisher was just nineteen when he represented his beloved Millwall at Wembley after he was spotted by Bill Voisey playing for the Air Training Corps.
Until his death last week at the age of 90, the full-back was the last surviving member of that team who played, and sadly lost, against Chelsea.
The father-of-three, who played against Stanley Matthews, went on to Fulham for a year and Colchester for ten years before retiring from football and taking a job with the Port of London Authority.
George is survived by his wife Marie and children, Kevan, Melvyn and Jaqueline. His funeral will be held on Monday September 28 at 11.00 at St Augustin’s of Canterbury Church, Beardsley Drive, Springfield, CM1 6GQ. A cremation will follow at Chelmsford Crematorium at 12.30.
