NEIL Harris has made his first signing of the summer for Millwall – and believes he has recruited “one of the best centre-halves in League One” in Murray Wallace.
Wallace, 25, joins from Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee, the club saying he has signed a “long-term deal”.
Wallace played four times against Millwall, keeping three clean sheets.
“Murray is one we’ve chased since the first day of the summer,” Harris told Millwall’s website.
“He’s been a great servant to Scunthorpe and been one of the best centre-halves in League One over the last three seasons.
“He’s put in some very strong performances against us over the years and epitomises exactly what Millwall is as a football club in the way he plays.”
Wallace can play in the centre of defence or at left-back, positions Harris wanted to strengthen after the departures of Jason Shackell and Harry Toffolo this summer.
“He’s very versatile,” Harris continued. “I’ve watched him play at left-back a couple of times and every time I’ve been impressed.
“He’s an excellent addition to the squad and will provide great competition in both the centre-half and left-back positions.
“If you work with a tight squad you’ve got to have quality, and Murray possesses that. We’re delighted to have him here.”
