GARY Lineker has shown his support for a campaign to stop the sale of land around The Den to a property development company.
The Defend our Den petition has been signed by over 15,000 people, who are concerned a potential deal between Lewisham Council and the property developer Renewal could jeopardise Millwall’s long-term future.
Lewisham Council cabinet members will meet later this evening when they will try to obtain a Compulsory Purchase Order to secure the land.
And Lineker today offered his support to the club, tweeting: “Yes, defending the Den is vital for the football club and local community.”
A number of former Millwall players have also taken to social media to register their opposition to Lewisham Council’s plan:
I support the club where my professional career all started @MillwallFC https://t.co/uCqeRGfdI4
