JORDAN Archer’s Millwall career is over after it was announced that the goalkeeper will not be offered a new contract when his current deal expires this summer.
The 26-year-old initially joined on loan from Tottenham in February 2015 for the rest of the season but played second fiddle to David Forde, failing to make a single appearance.
Four months later Archer re-signed for Millwall on a free transfer and was named as clubs Player of the season in 2015/2016 as they reached the League One Play-Off Final.
Archer was rewarded with a two-year contract and continued to exceed expectations, making a memorable save from Billy Clarke in the Wembley victory over Bradford City as the Lions secured promotion back to the Championship after a two-year absence.
He kept 18 clean sheets last season – a figure bettered by only four goalkeepers – as Millwall finished 8th and narrowly missed out on the play-offs. Archer then received his first call-up to the Scotland national team in May 2018 and would make his international debut in a 2-0 defeat to Peru in Lima later that month.
But Archer’s final campaign at The Den was a struggle. The 26-year-old was dropped just five games into the season and was replaced in the side by Ben Amos and then lost his place again in early March, this time by Dave Martin, and would fail to make another appearance after that, with his last coming in the 2-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers on 9 March before he was left out the squad for the final seven matches.
Elsewhere, Ryan Tunnicliffe has also been released along with Tom King, Conor McLaughlin and Sid Nelson, whilst Ben Amos and Ben Marshall have returned to Bolton and Norwich City.
Under-23s Harry Donovan, Lewis White, Mason Saunders-Henry, Mich’el Parker, Jethro Hanson, Rob Harvey, Joe Wicks and Lazar Stojsavljevic have also be released, but Jesse Debrah and Isaac Olaofe have had options activated in their contracts and will remain at the club.
Goalkeeper Ryan Sandford has been offered a new deal.
