MILLWALL manager Gary Rowett said “nothing is imminent” as the club aim to recruit at least two players in this transfer window.
Rowett warned the club would not pay over the odds for players and believes it could be closer to the end of January when most of clubs’ business is done.
Rowett is an admirer of Jack Clarke, who Leeds sold to Tottenham for £10million before loaning him back, but the winger returned to his parent club this month after just one appearance this season.
The Lions have also had enquiries about some of their players.
“If you look at the nuts and bolts of it, we’re not going to overpay for players because that’s not the type of club we are,” Rowett said. “It’s a long list of players that we could probably take right away, but the ones that you genuinely feel are going to make your team better are the ones you’re going to have to wait for. That’s just the nature of the January window.
“I’m speaking to a lot of people at the moment and they’re all saying the same. I don’t think a lot’s going to happen. A lot of teams, because of FFP and some financial restraints, are not going to do too much.
“There could be a lot of moves in the last week. Anything before then will be a bonus.
“We’ve had a few enquiries for our players that have not had many minutes so far. I always try and balance things off. First and foremost we have to do what’s right for Millwall Football Club, I don’t think anyone would argue with that.
“After that there’s the human side of it that if you feel someone’s not going to get that much playing time and if you feel like you can make a decision that helps you and helps them as well then that’s only fair.
“Those decisions will be made along the way. I don’t think we have had any offer yet from anyone that’s been ‘wow, we’ve got to do something’.
“I don’t see anything imminent either in or out.”
