SID Nelson is recovering after suffering an ankle injury in Chesterfield’s second last game of the season against Newport County last week.
Nelson damaged ankle ligaments when he collided with a post making a goal-line clearance.
He is wearing a protective boot and will hope to be ready in time when Millwall return for pre-season training on June 25, assuming he will be offered a new contract.
One of Nelson’s centre-back partners this season, Laurence Maguire, paid tribute to the Millwall man’s bravery.
He said: “You see that every day in training, he puts his body on the line for the lads, sadly he went into the post.
“He was doing well, he’s been good for us and it’s a sad one for Sid but I’m sure he’ll recover very quickly and come back stronger.”
Nelson played 15 times on loan at Chesterfield, scoring his first senior professional goal. He became a big favourite and was widely praised for his performances by Spireites fans, though he couldn’t help the club avoid relegation from League Two.
