MILLWALL are hoping to recruit another goalkeeper this summer to increase competition for Jordan Archer.
Archer has been Neil Harris’ first choice for almost three seasons and kept 18 clean sheets in 45 league games as Millwall finished eighth in 2017-18.
But he also made a number of mistakes that led to goals and it is felt there needs to be more pressure on his number one jersey to ensure he performs more consistently.
Millwall replaced previous goalkeeping coach Kevin Pressman with Lee Turner this summer after the latter left the same role at Charlton.
The Lions have monitored a number of stoppers in recent months, and NewsAtDen understands Turner has also recommended Bolton’s Ben Amos to Harris.
Amos, 28, spent last season with Turner at the Addicks, keeping 14 shutouts in 46 league games to help his side reach the League One play-offs, where they lost in the semi-finals to Shrewsbury.
Amos, however, is thought to be on a salary of around £16,000 per week with Millwall’s Championship rivals. He has been linked with another loan move, and the Lions would have to pay a large chunk of his wages. Charlton contributed £4,000 per week to his salary last season.
As well as Archer, Millwall have Dave Martin, Tom King and youngster Ryan Sandford as back-up keepers.
King and Sandford are available for loan moves, leaving just Martin to cover for Archer.
Archer, 25, showed his ability with a number of stunning saves last season and earned a first senior Scotland cap, in a friendly against Peru in May.
Archer is not for sale, and it is hoped that Turner can help him fulfil his potential and cut down on the basic errors.
Meanwhile, reports at the weekend claimed that Norwich have entered the race for Ben Marshall. Harris wants to sign Marshall on a permanent deal from Wolves, but Norwich would be in a position to financially outmuscle Millwall.
