BEN Thompson’s Portsmouth moved six points clear at the top of League One after a 2-0 win at home to Southend on Saturday.
Thompson, who had been booked, was substituted in the 89th minute after an own goal from Michael Turner and Jamal Lowe’s eighth of the season handed Kenny Jackett’s side three points.
Pompey have lost just once in the league this season.
Also in the second tier, Fred Onyedinma played on the right of midfield as Wycombe defeated Barnsley 1-0 at home. The Chairboys are four point off the play-offs in ninth.
Tom King was on the bench in Wally Downes’ first game in charge of AFC Wimbledon, a 1-1 draw at home to Rochdale, a result that leaves them 23rd, six points off safety.
Swindon are up to 11th in League Two, four points off the play-offs, after Kaiyne Woolrey’s late goal gave them a 2-1 win at home to Rochdale. Sid Nelson played the full game in the centre of defence for Richie Wellens’ Robins.
In National League South, Danny McNamara played right-back for Welling United in their 3-1 defeat at Torquay United. Welling dropped to fourth in the table as Torquay went top.
@ExpressFM what a time to be a #Pompey fan! We do seem to sit deep when we’re up a few goals but I always feel confident we have the ability to kick it up a gear when needed. Also please don’t take Ben Thompson back Millwall ?
