MILLWALL MANAGER Neil Harris is happy with his squad going into the start of pre-season training this Friday.
David Worrall, Shaun Hutchison and Gregg Wylde have all signed for the club in the last two weeks, replacing players in those positions who have since departed.
And Harris isn’t actively looking for further recruits, and insists he will assess his squad and offer chances to the younger players should he need to before resorting to strengthening from outside the club.
“As of today, I am not looking to bring anyone in over the next week or two.” Harris told The Southwark News.
“I want to assess my squad when they get in for pre-season, we have an intense period now between July 1 and August 6 and there is a lot of football to be played, there’s a lot of opportunity to impress.
“We aren’t going to be a big squad again which will leave the opportunity for the younger players to come through, but they have to be good enough.
“If that isn’t the case, or we suffer with injury pre-season, then there is room in the squad to bring in somebody else.”
With the season only five weeks away, Chief Executive Andy Ambler has reiterated that the club do not need to, nor do they wish to sell any of their star players, despite some reports linking them elsewhere.
“We haven’t contemplated losing any players,” Ambler said. “We don’t need to do that, there is no reason to.
“We’re in the same position as we have been for a long time with the Chairman’s view being we don’t have to sell to fund the losses at the club, he’s going to keep investing – that is a big advantage for the manager.
“I think the fact the squad is in place, it’s now about coming back and getting the training started properly,.
“The team will again go away to Portugal during the second week of July on a training camp and they’ll all be together, with the exception of Shane Ferguson who will be taking some time off after his exploits at the Euros.
“It’s down to Neil to get to the team spirit back as it was at the end of last season that’ll be the challenge over the next month or so.”
