DAVE Livermore believes Steve Morison can “play as long as he wants” – and as long as he is still influencing games.
Morison,34, triggered an extension until 2019 after registering his 20th league appearance of the season.
The Lions striker has worn the captain’s armband in 2017-18, and was outstanding last weekend as he got his seventh assist of the campaign when he set up George Saville in the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough.
“He’s very, very fit. He can play as long as he wants to,” Livermore said. “For Moro, as long as he can influence games for large periods of games he will be happy to continue.
“It’s important for us that we have people here that understand the football club. You’ve got in Steve Morison and Tony Craig two people who have been here for a long time. Then there are young lads that have come through like Ben Thompson, Fred Onyedinma and Aiden O’Brien. Add to that Byron Webster and Shaun Williams, lads that have learned what Millwall is about over a period of time, it’s important to have those types of players.
“I don’t know the ins and outs of his contract but if he can continually perform like he did on Saturday, why wouldn’t we keep him? That type of player is hard to find. He can help the new players and the young players that come through.
“He’s doing his coaching badges, he’s passed his A licence and I’m sure he’s got one eye on that side of things. But he can play for as long as he feels he’s able to.”
