BEN THOMPSON believes Millwall can add to QPR’s downward spiral by beating them at The Den on Wednesday night to reduce the gap between the sides to a point.
QPR sacked Steve McLaren after a run of one win in 15 games, before caretaker John Eustace saw his side lose 4-0 at Norwich at the weekend.
The Lions have won two of their last three Championship games, with Thompson getting an assist in the 2-0 victory over promotion-chasing West Brom on Saturday.
“There’s no reason why we can’t go and beat them on Wednesday and drag them right into it. They’re a team that are definitely beatable,” Thompson said.
“Look at West Brom, we were the underdogs, no one thought we were going to win and we proved everyone wrong. That’s what Millwall do. We’ve got to do that again Wednesday.
“Once you get dragged into it you start losing momentum, losing confidence. Other teams might feel under pressure more than us. We’ve just got to carry on doing our business and playing how we’re playing. That’s four games now we’ve been outstanding.
“I think every Millwall team has [responded] when they’ve been under pressure, when they’ve been on the back foot, the underdogs. That’s when a Millwall team really shines and plays well.
“In a way it could be working well for us that Rotherham won as well. We’re still under pressure and we’ll be grinding out every game and giving it our all.
“The boys know what’s at stake, the importance of staying up. It’s massive. The boys feel [pressure] a bit but you can’t show it on the pitch because at the end of the day we need everyone fully focused.
“I know for me personally I’m just playing with freedom. I feel like, what’s the worst that can happen, it’s a game of football. You’ve got to give it your all to make sure this club stays up, that’s all I can do and I know the boys will do the same.”
Four of Millwall’s remaining seven league games are at home.
Thompson added: “It’s massive, this Den is a fortress, teams come here and don’t fancy it. We’ve got to make sure that we make it as uncomfortable as possible or other teams that come here.
“I’ve spoken to players that have come here and played and they dread it. That’s what we want. Hopefully every team that comes here doesn’t fancy it.”
