MILLWALL LIONESSES came from 2-1 down to draw with Sheffield Ladies in their Women’s Super League 2 clash on Sunday.
Debutant Ella Rutherford forced a save from Sheffield goalkeeper Juliana Draycott early on, before Rinsola Babajide was a fraction away from connecting with Jordan Butler’s cross.
The Lionesses went ahead in the 22nd minute when Ashlee Hincks calmly slotted home from the spot after Rutherford had been fouled. Millwall went close to extending the lead through Rutherford and Bonnie Horwood, but Emma Lipman equalised for Sheffield just before the break after Sarah Quantrill had initially brilliantly denied Jody Michalska.
Lipman, who hadn’t scored for three years, then nabbed her second with a long-range drive that gave Quantrill no chance.
But Millwall didn’t wilt and Charlotte Gurr, who had only been on the pitch four minutes, found the net from Hincks’ corner for the equaliser.
Amber Gaylor then had the chance to win it for Millwall but she was foiled at the death. The result leaves the Lionesses in ninth place in the WSL2 table, a point above last-placed Watford Ladies.
