Refurbishment to the Michael Faraday Memorial, a metal-clad box-shaped monument on the roundabout, will be completed “within two weeks,” TfL has confirmed, writes Kirsty Purnell.
TfL is to re-paint the memorial, after complaints from local residents about its ‘shabby’ appearance.
The Grade II listed building honours the Newington Butts scientist, most famous for his discovery of electromagnetic induction in 1831.
The monument comes under the jurisdiction of TfL because an electrical substation for the Northern and Bakerloo Lines is encased within it.
Campaigner Richard Reynolds said: “It’s excellent that they’re giving it a lick of paint but this is just a slither of the bigger issue. There’s more to be done.”
