A woman who spent 25 years helping elderly and disabled residents enjoy day trips and special activities has been given a British Citizen Award in recognition of her services to Southwark.
Christine Reid has volunteered for The Ashton Edwards Trust since 1991, including maintaining its ‘dial-a-ride’ minibus and working as one of its drivers.
She retired eight years ago from driving, but still volunteers for the charity.
Christine was one of 35 people honoured at a ceremony yesterday, Thursday, July 4, at Westminster.
She said: “Knowing that people put my name forward for this award and wrote what they did about me, was very moving.
“I feel very grateful indeed at the end of a voluntary role I got a huge amount of pleasure from.”
