The renowned fireworks are back after two years away. Here’s where you can watch them for free without travelling too far…
The London New Year’s Eve fireworks are back, after a two-year break during the pandemic. Although tickets for the allocated viewing areas have sold out, there’s still the chance to see the display for free from some local spots.
The fireworks will be held by the London Eye on the South Bank of the River Thames.
You’ll be able to see them from these bridges, all accessible from Bankside.

- Millennium Bridge
- Blackfriars Bridge
Nearest tube stations: London Bridge, Borough, Southwark, Waterloo.
Vauxhall Bridge and Lambeth Bridge aren’t as close but will be less crowded.

You’ll be able to see the official fireworks display, as well as many others taking place across London.

Public transport for after the fireworks
Public transport will be running, so here is all the information so you can plan ahead.
Buses will run a usual Saturday night service, with more frequent buses on some routes.

There will be special overnight services with three trains an hour on the Highbury & Islington-Crystal Palace and West Croydon-Highbury & Islington lines.
There will be no service on some London Overground lines, including Liverpool Street-Enfield Town/Cheshunt/Chingford and Romford-Upminster. Other overground lines will have a reduced service.
There will be a special all-night service on all tube lines except Waterloo & City line (no service) and District line to Kensington Olympia.
Black cabs will be available but will charge an extra £4 per journey from 8pm on New Year’s Eve until 6am on Monday January 2.
The event starts at 8pm on New Year’s Eve (December 31) and ends at 12.30am on New Year’s Day (January 1).
