CARLOS Edwards said the penalty given against him last Saturday in the 2-2 draw with Swindon was the wrong decision.
Edwards was penalised by referee Kevin Wright in the 63rd minute when Raphael Rossi-Branco tumbled in the box following minimal contact from the 37-year-old defender.
Nicky Ajose made no mistake from the spot and Millwall went on to concede at last-minute equaliser when Michael Doughty scored for Luke Williams’ side.
Millwall boss Neil Harris was critical of Wright after the clash, and Edwards is hoping for more favourable officiating for the rest of the season.
“I didn’t think it was a penalty. We were side by side and I think he was doing some acting classes,” Edwards said. “There’s not much I can do, the referee’s decision is final and we move on to the next game.
“At the end of the day that’s the manager’s job to question the referee if he feels the need to. I just concentrate on the game. Yes, I think he could have given us a few more fouls and some of the fouls he gave against us were a bit too easy.
“In saying that, what can you do? You can only continue to play football and hope that from now until the end of the season we get some decent referees.
“I don’t think it’s just me or the manager or the rest of the players (who notice refereeing decisions). The fans can see as well so it’s not just 11 Millwall players that can see that the referee is giving them silly fouls and not giving us fouls.
“We do get some decent referees, we get some average ones and horrible ones. But we can’t just complain about the referee at the end of the day. In this instance, yes we can see he wasn’t giving us anything whatsoever, but what can you do as players?”
Edwards stressed that Millwall won’t let the loss of two points affect them with 10 games left to play in League One.
“We’re going to continue to go, there’s a lot at stake,” he said. “It’s a big disappointment but we don’t want to bring that negativity with us. Yes, we were upset that we didn’t walk away with the three points but we live to fight another day.
“And you never know, come the end of the season it might be that point that got us promotion.
“When you come away with a point some teams would be happy but we’re not. That shows the attitude of the lads that we want to win every game. That’s the attitude that the manager has instilled in us from day one.”
