MARK Beevers has described his time at Millwall as “probably one of, if not the highlight, of my career”.
The defender, 33, is currently playing his football out in Australia with Perth Glory.
He spent four years at Millwall between 2012 and 2016 before three years at Bolton and three years at Peterborough. The centre-back started his career with Sheffield Wednesday.
Beevers said he only has good memories of his time at “family club” Millwall – apart from his regret over the 2-0 loss to Wigan in the 2013 FA Cup semi-final.
He told NewsAtDen: “I loved it at Millwall. It was probably one of, if not the highlight, of my career. Looking as an outsider Millwall, everyone [says], it’s this yob club but it’s really not. It’s such a friendly club and everyone who worked there was fantastic and the fans are great as well, just how passionate they are.
“I enjoyed every minute of it. My family moved down and bought a house in London and my little girl was born down here. And even to this day my mum, dad and wife will be talking about clubs that have been welcoming to families and Millwall were right up there. It’s such a big family club.
“Within my three years, I had some good times. We had a couple of relegation scraps. We survived and had a great cup run when we got to the semi-final of the FA Cup against Wigan. Looking back I think we should have probably got more out of the game. We were a better team than what we showed we were. Even though Wigan went on to win the competition and beat Manchester City, I feel as though they were there for the taking.”
Beevers is enjoying life out in Australia but fancies a return to English football one day.
He added: “There are elements of the game I do miss in England and I do want to play in England again. Me coming out here is not me retiring. I just want to experience something else and hopefully come back and play again in England at some point.
