GARY Rowett admitted that he considered making three substitutions at half-time during their 1-0 defeat against Huddersfield Town.
While the Lions were only a goal down at the break, they were incredibly fortunate that the hosts were unable to punish them further after a lacklustre opening 45 minutes.
Despite that, Rowett opted against making any changes at the restart, instead waiting until the hour-mark to bring on Tyler Burey and Benik Afobe for Scott Malone and Tom Bradshaw.
“I thought about making three changes at half-time but I just wanted the players to have the opportunity,” he explained after the match.
“I think we did it about 55 minutes in, so again, I gave them ten minutes in the second half, it felt long enough for the players coming on to have an impact. I think they did have an impact, it wasn’t quite a positive enough impact but that’s what happens sometimes.
“We’re a team, we understand and recognise what type of team we are. Some games we’re going to blow teams away, like a Watford, that we shouldn’t do. There’s going to be the odd game like today where we feel a bit short.
“I think you also have to hand credit to Huddersfield. I thought they worked incredibly hard, they broke with that little bit of intensity and they look like a team absolutely desperate to get that win.
“I think they did just about enough to stop us getting back into the game.”
