MILLWALL boss Neil Harris said the only positive to come out of Saturday’s FA Cup second round defeat to Wycombe Wanderers was the performance of Ben Thompson.
The 20-year-old midfielder netted his first senior competitive goal for Millwall on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Lions falling to a 2-1 defeat.
Thompson signed a new contract last week with the club he supports that will take him up to the summer of 2017.
Asked if he took anything from the defeat last weekend, Harris said bluntly: “Ben’s goal. And some aspects of his performance were good.”
Harris was also blunt in his assessment of what had gone wrong against Gareth Ainsworth’s League Two side and promised an improvement in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area semi-final against Southend tomorrow night.
“We didn’t compete all over the park,” he said. “We weren’t good enough as a team as a whole from back to front.
“We have to be better on Tuesday because Tuesday is a big game for us and a huge challenge on a tight pitch. It’s another massive cup game. My players will be better.”
Harris was also asked where the performance ranked since he took charge, but understandably he seemed keen to put the experience behind him.
“We weren’t good enough,” he responded. “We move on to Tuesday.”
