MURRAY Wallace has revealed the Millwall squad struggled to sleep after hearing about John Berylson’s tragic death.
The popular owner died in an accident in America last week at the age of 70.
Manager Gary Rowett and the team heard about his passing while away at a pre-season training camp in Alicante.
Wallace said the news stunned the players as he revealed his own memories of the beloved chairman.
The 30-year-old told NewsAtDen: “It was a massive shock for all of us.
“We found out late at night. They called a meeting and the gaffer just told us what had happened. It was such a shock for us all and a lot of us didn’t sleep very well.
“I think the message we were trying to focus on was how much John cared about the club and how much he wanted us to progress and push on.”
The defender added: “But I’ve got nothing but good things to say about John. He had such a massive impact on Millwall and you can see that with the fans’ reaction and them all turning up and laying out the shirts and signing the book of condolences.
“For me personally from the day I signed he’s always had time for me, always had time to have a chat and always been open.
“I got on very well with him and it was very sad to hear the news that he had passed.”
