RYAN Sandford certainly had a memorable debut for Weymouth on Tuesday evening.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper joined the Terras on a one-month loan after his spell at Dover Athletic came to an end, with manager David Oldfield putting him straight into the starting lineup just a few hours later.
It meant that his first game for his new club came against Bath City, where fellow Millwall loanee Joe Wright is currently at the start of his season-long loan. The Romans ended up winning the match 2-1, but Sandford managed to steal the show despite the defeat.
In the 90th minute of the match, the hosts were awarded a penalty that would’ve seen them extend their lead to a two-goal margin. Cody Cooke, having already scored Bath’s second goal of the game, stepped up to take it, but his low effort was parried away by Sandford.
When a Bath played tried to steer the rebound into the back of the net, the goalkeeper got back up to make a second save. The Romans came again, with their third shot being blocked before their fourth effort was once again parried by Sandford. It looked like Jerry Gill’s side would finally get their goal on the fifth attempt, but the Millwall loanee once again got over in time to make a fourth and final save.
While it couldn’t prevent his side from slipping to a narrow defeat, Sandford certainly made a name for himself on his first outing for his new club.
You can watch the extraordinary quadruple save here.
